METAMORPHOSIS OF THE FIRST FORM

PROCESS

DESCRIPTION

  • For the ephemeral sculpture Metamorphosis of the First Form sand is sculpted, through drawing, carving, mounds and depressions along with collections of found objects, each in specific relation to the other, creating a sequence of formulas that reference the pathway of matter higher dimensional space. Combining the physical with the ephemeral, each installation is not built to last. Using sand as a medium, bound loosely by water, the inevitably of decomposition is built into the structures. Nature, time, and chance are my collaborators. I believed this medium uniquely allows me to portray the fluid and transformative nature of the universe.

Sculpture can be seen as a microcosmic way to represent cosmic forces and weave together past and future. The diagrams are both intuitive and follow specific principles. Impermanence is a part of all that lives, the truth contained within in every organism. How to describe this innate defeat of life other than by turning a lasting thought into perishable material.
