Internal Alchemies are a series of paintings that are partly automatic, portraying the interior territories of the psyche. Created whilst entering meditative states, they are not representations of forms in nature, except in the symbolic sense, but are records of inner visual experiences. Bringing light out of darkness, form out of emptiness. Using collected pigments such as ash, quartz and rocks, their sensitive use of colour and forms, either in movement or rest, and in specific relationships in space aims to achieve an inner radiance. The paintings themselves are descriptive of the highly abstract states of consciousness entered during visionary states, but they also offer precise cartographies through the sequential changes of consciousness that occur during these states and can therefore be seen as portals to a higher state of awareness.
